Thanks for the post – simple, clear, complete. I was notified about it on my blog.

I will just note I would still recommend users not to do the steps in “Setting JRE6 u12 as the Default Java Runtime” section – wait for the stable release and use the early access just for the applets…

Hi leoquant – no you shouldn’t have to uninstall update 11 or clean /opt/java, since update 12 will unpack into its own directory. Then, the commands under the section “Setting JRE6 u12 as the Default Java Runtime” above will set update 12 as the default installation.

Uninstalling update 11 is not required. Hope that helps

i have installed the sun jre -11 update. which runs fine. i have to uninstall this version first. just by removing/cleaning the /opt/java dir.?
usr/bin/java also? and firefox?(about:plugins)
