Just to clarify, the Static version of Skype, statically links to its own self contained set of Qt libraries - a good choice it you don&#039;t currently have Qt installed, and don&#039;t want to install Qt on your system (for example, you have a pure Gnome installation, which uses GTK. Qt is used by KDE). The latest static skype can be downloaded from http://skype.com/go/getskype-linux-static</description>
